Special Education

Holy Cross School has a diverse population of students. We support children with a range of abilities. Two learning assistance teachers and educational assistants are employed at the school to meet the needs of these students. In addition, an occupational therapist, a speech and language therapist and a psychologist have been contracted to support students requiring these services.

Special Education Services – A Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines are referred to in order to meet B.C. Ministry of Education standards. Programs and goals for each student requiring an Individual Education Plan are created with the intentions to support the child as a whole. The learning assistance teachers provide one-to-one assistance and small group instruction for reading, writing and math. ‘Circle of Friends’ groups and social skills sessions are also provided to aid in the acquisition of these essential skills.
