Faculty Feature. Special Education

Please meet Mrs. Anita Halverson, our Special Education Teacher at Holy Cross. She has enjoyed teaching for 27 years, beginning in Calgary as a volunteer in day camps for teenagers with diverse needs. She attended the University of Calgary to complete her Bachelor of Education Degree with a minor in Special Education, before beginning her career as a substitute teacher. She worked with the Outma Sqilx’W Cultural School with the Penticton Indian Band where she taught multi-grade classrooms and worked as a resource teacher.

Mrs. Halverson then moved on to Holy Cross School, where she has been working for the last 24 years. Her role has primarily been as the Student Supports Coordinator and the Learning Assistance Teacher, which involves coordinating and providing services to support students with various needs. She has also shared teaching assignments with primary grade teachers. Throughout the years, she has taken a variety of courses and workshops on literacy and Autism Spectrum disorder.

She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and practicing yoga. Mrs. Halverson feels blessed that her two children were able to attend Holy Cross School and that she is able to be a part of this wonderful, faith-filled school family. She loves teaching and growing with her students. She is grateful for all the staff, the parents and of course, our amazing students!
